Travel Teams
The travel teams will participate in the Southern Youth Travel Hockey League in the A1/A2 (also known as B) league. This is a season-long commitment to attend practices as well as out-of-town practices & games. Evaluations for Travel are held in the spring. If you have just moved to the area, after evaluations have been held, and are interested in Travel please email; CIC@jriceflyers.com to make arrangements for an evaluation.
After evaluations have been completed, a private registration link will be sent out to rostered players.

We have Travel Teams from 10U - 16U when numbers allow.

When
Our season runs from October - March with Practices starting during the late summer.

Prior to October practices will be held at other rink locations according to availability and will require some weekend travel. (Pelham, Huntsville, Columbus or Lafayette are all possibilities)
Practices
Practices will be held at the Pensacola Bay Center and are usually 2 (60 min.) practices a week with the possibility of occasional weekend ice time. However, the practice schedule is subject to the ice availability at the Pensacola Bay Center.
The practices prior to October that require travel will typically include 2 days of practice to include Saturday and Sunday. Practices will be approximately 3 hours each day depending on availability. There will be approximately 4 - 5 practice weekends prior to ice availability in October.
Games
Travel teams play 5-6 weekends of 4 games per weekend. Typical travel weekends can be Nashville, Memphis, Alabama & Georgia depending on participating teams in each division.
Jerseys
There is not an option to purchase PJIF league jerseys/socks/shell during registration. If you would like to purchase PJIF league jerseys/socks/shell, please email eqiupment@jriceflyers.com for instructions to purchase. Additionally, please consult your travel team Head Coach / Team Manager regarding if your travel team will use a PJIF league jersey or an alternate option this season before purchasing.
Extra Costs
TOURNAMENT FEES: (Tournaments in addition to regular SYTHL weekends) The tournament fees are in addition to registration and are determined by the cost of the tournament and the number of players attending. Any travel or hotels will also be the players responsibility.
USA HOCKEY
All skaters/players and coaches must be registered with USA Hockey and is not refundable.
Frequently Asked Questions
My player is interested in the Travel team, what do we need todo?
We hold evaluations typically in March. They will need to evaluate during that time. Please keep an eye on the website and social media for announcements of dates and times.
What if we arrive/move to the area after evaluations have already been held?
Please contact the Coach in Cheif at cic@jriceflyers.com, to arrange an evaluation by the appropriate coach for your age group.
What if we move to the area in the fall?
Please contact the Coach in Cheif at cic@jriceflyers.com, to arrange an evaluation by the appropriate coach for your age group. If there is availability on the rosters he will direct you further. Rosters close Dec 31st for SYTHL, no changes can be made after that time.
How much travel is involved?
Travel teams play 5-6 weekends of 4 games per weekend with the SYTHL League. Typical travel weekends can be Nashville, Memphis, Alabama & Georgia depending on participating teams in each division. There May be additional tournaments scheduled locations TBD.
My player is 17, is there an 18U travel team?
Each year it is determined at each level if there are enough registered players for a Travel team in each age group after evaluations take place. Declarations for SYTHL Travel teams need to be made in June. Tournament teams may be formed after that time if numbers rise at the start of the season.
2026-2027
Travel teams will participate in the Southern Youth Travel Hockey League (SYTHL) and may attend additional tournaments. This is a season-long commitment to attend local and out of town practices and out of town games and tournaments.
Total fees for travel and house ice practices are $1925.
Travel fees are $1200. Fees for the travel budget will include off-season practice ice prior to ice availability at the Bay Center in October, SYTHL fees and dues, and possible non-SYTHL tournaments.
The remaining $750 (or $725 if during the Early Bird Discount) is for house fees. House fees will still have the same payment plan. Any distance discounts or goalie discounts will apply toward house fees.
A minimum of a $325 payment is due within 5 days of receiving the Travel Team Registration Link for fully rostered players. This is to ensure coaches have the necessary funds to pay for off season ice as well as register for non-SYTHL tournaments. The remaining balance is split into 5 payments running August-December.
Players who are offered an alternate spot on a roster will be required to pay $750 (or $725 if during the Early Bird Discount) within 5 days of receiving the Travel Team Registration Link. Alternate player accounts will be charged additional fees for each tournament weekend attended.
**IMPORTANT: If you would like to request an alternate payment plan for your travel fees, please email your request to treasurer@jriceflyers.com. All fees must be paid in full by December 31st regardless of payment plan specifics.
